Aaron has 20 years of experience at both youth and HS levels. He was the head varsity girls coach for 8 years and has been the varsity assistant for boys the last 7 years. Coach Fichter runs camps for youth from 1-8th grade during the summers. He had over 400+ campers in the last 5 years for our 3v3 camp and skills camp.

Joe has been the Indianola Basketball Association Commissioner since 2021. He has 10 years of coaching experience, developing youth teams from 2nd-8th grade. He played for Bert Hanson and Ken Beane and was a part of Indianola’s 4A state title team in 2001.

Will played basketball at Simpson College. He has been a college assistant, head varsity, head sophomore, head freshmen, and varsity assistant for both boys and girls. He also has 10+ years of youth experience along with 20+ years of high school and college experience.

Katie is a Knoxville, Iowa native and Nebraska-Omaha women’s basketball player alumni. With her AAU youth basketball years, high school accomplishments and her experience competing at the Division I level, we are excited for her to be apart of the Iowa Suns. “I can’t wait to learn, grow, and make a positive impact on every athlete that walks through our doors.”

Trevor was a 1,000 point scorer in high school. He went on to play basketball at DMACC and Graceland University. He coached at Kingdom Hoops and Michael Born basketball camps for many years. He is now serving as Pleasantville high school boys freshman and assistant varsity coach.

Nicci played baskeball at Simpson College. She then served as the varsity assistant and the head JV coach for 5 years before transitioning into her current role as a Professor and Department Chair in the Sport Science department at Simpson College. She is an Exercise Physiologist with knowledge in sport nutrition and performance training.

I am a current college coach (2+ years), grew up in southeast Iowa, and spent a lot of my time chasing a ball around. As a kid playing 3 years in the CIML and on AAU circuits, I learned what it takes to compete at a high level. I started in 79 of the 105 games I played in college. Fighting for minutes as a freshman to being a 4 year captain. I had a process that got me ready for games and improved my skills. Now I teach that same process to my players. I will challenge athletes in a positive environment that builds skills and prepares them for basketball season.

McKenzie currently plays basketball for Central College in Pella, Iowa. She is a sophomore at Central studying Kinesiology to become a physical therapist. “I am coaching club because I love teaching others about basketball and helping younger girls improve their skills in every aspect of the game. I also love getting to know new people. I want to be competitive, but I like to have fun and enjoy the game at the same time.”

Bronson played basketball for two years at Simpson College. He has 4 years of coaching experience which include youth programs on the Southside of Des Moines, Pleasantville High School Boys Assistant Coach, and starting his 2nd year with the Iowa Suns.

Claire is an assistant coach for Simpson WBB. The Dakota Dunes, South Dakota native was a four year letter-winner at Simpson College. During that span, she was a two-time all-conference second team performer and a three-time academic all-conference honoree. Urias ended her final year by averaging 10.2 points per contest and was third in the American Rivers Conference in assists (4.2) and steals (2.4) per game.

Jahi, a Chicago native, and graduate from DeKalb High School in 2018 continued his education and football career at Central College. After graduation he became an assistant coach at Hoover High School for football from 2023-24. He coached track for the Huskies during this time as well. He currently coaches for the Hoover basketball program, working with athletes at all levels to help support their growth on and off the court since 2023. He is also an assistant football coach at Simpson College, helping lead the team to the schools 1st winning season since 2018. “I look forward to building strong relationships while helping athletes develop their skills, basketball IA, and confidence.”

Nic has 15 years of head coaching experience as the Head Girls’ Basketball coach at Centerville High School. During his time at Centerville he has lead the program to a school record of 220 career wins, 3 Conference Championships, ten 14+ win seasons, and been selected 3A SE District coach of the year 3 times. He has coached 6 players that received All-State recognition, 17 All-District players, and 32 All-Conference performers. He is a PE teacher, Head Girls’ Basketball coach, Varsity Football Offenstive Coordinator, and Jr High Girls’ Track Coach in the Centerville CSD.

Adam is a senior at Grand View University. He graduated from Camanche High School in 2022. He was an All Conference Elite Team Player and an IBCA All Star in high school. “I find value in using the knowledge of the game that i’ve learned to pass down to the next generation. I also find enjoyment seeing kids love the game and develop a passion for it because it reminds me of myself.”

Keri played four years of collegiate basketball at Queens University of Charlotte. She brings over 25 years of coaching experience at multiple levels, including youth boys and girls, AAU, and high school. She has served as Head JV Girls Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach at her alma mater, as well as Assistant JV/Varsity Coach at Simpson College. Keri currently serves as the IBA Commissioner.

Emily is currently a junior at Central College in Pella. She graduated from Indianola High School in 2023 and participated in cross country, basketball, and track. She started playing basketball in 3rd grade and fell in love with it. She is excited to be in her 2nd season coaching with the Iowa Suns and helping develop female athletes!

Dustin played collegiately at St. Ambrose University. He has 18 years of coaching experience including 13 years in the Waukee program with multiple state appearances at that time. He currently serves as the head coach for the Carlisle boys basketball team and is in his 4th year. He has worked many camps as well: Future Stars, Mike Born, and Drake basketball camps under Ben McCollum, as well as his own skills camps in SE Iowa where he grew up.

Rachel has 7+ years of experience coaching youth teams on the girls’ side. She has worked with and coached our girls’ teams ranging from 3rd grade to 10th grade. Rachel is in her fourth year with the Iowa Suns.

Mike brings a strong basketball background and a long-standing commitment to youth development to our program. He played collegiately at Coe College and began his coaching career at the collegiate level as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at DMACC from 2002–2004, where the team compiled an impressive 53–13 record. His responsibilities included game preparation, recruiting, and on-the-floor coaching.

In addition to his collegiate experience, Coach Buckley has worked numerous elite basketball camps, including Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Southeast Missouri State, and Southwest Missouri State, as well as many local camps. These experiences have helped shape his approach to teaching the game and developing players at all levels.

Since 2012, Coach Buckley has been actively involved in youth basketball in Pella, coaching and mentoring young athletes while focusing on fundamentals, teamwork, and a love for the game. He is also a current board member of the Pella Hoops Club and has coached within the 212 Sports Academy youth program.

Taylor played basketball at Central College. He is currently the head varsity boys coach at Pleasantville. He is in his 19th season of varsity coaching. He has been a head varsity boys coach for Creston, North High in Des Moines, and Pleasantville.
